14 Months | 3.5 Years: Daddy Weekend

Believe it or not, Mary has never spent a night away from her baby/ies. Until now.

So it's two good full days and one night with Daddy only; first time ever. So far we're mostly through day-one, absolutely no problems. Lela has grown up quite a bit in the past few months, and I don't think she's as desperately attached to Mommy as she once was. It wasn't too long ago that Mary couldn't go have dinner with a few friends without exposing me to a brutal, sustained 20, or 30, or 45 minute screaming session, complete with vomit. None of that today, and we're nearly at 12 hours!

Tonight will be the real test. She doesn't really fall asleep without Mommy, especially in the middle of the night when/if she wakes up. So... I've had a relatively easy go of it with Lela 'til now!

I don't know, though... perhaps Mommy wouldn't have allowed Lela to drive the self-propelled kiddy cars around the playground this afternoon:

I'm sure it was fine, they only have a top speed of like 10-15 MPH.

August is cuter than ever. He thinks he can add a 'y' to anything, to create a new word describing his wants/needs. So, just as he'd be hungry when he wants food, and thirsty when he wants drink, he might now be basebally when he wants to play baseball.

"I'm very watchy" if he wants to watch TV. Or "iPaddy". Today I got "I'm not very walky, I'm very pick-uppy".

Onward.

Here's Lela, not yet one year.

And here she is walking! And here's her wonderful brother watching out for her.

11 Months: Trouble

I was something of a terror/daredevil kid. We've been pretty happy that August hasn't turned out that way so far. Looking more and more like we won't dodge that bullet in Lela's case. Here she is, 11 months old today, climbing up the slide backwards even though she's still yet to take her first unassisted steps.

8 Months | 2.5 Years: Pre-XMas Footage

Before we left for our annual Christmas-time trip to Idaho, August's class had a PJ party on the last day of school. Thank goodness for Aunt Deeda's birthday gift, opened somewhat before August's actual birthday, because if not for her we wouldn't have had any actual, official PJs, much less these cute dinosaur ones. Since August refuses to use a blanket, he sleeps in a lot of extra-warm clothes, so it's been a while since we had any PJs... much less the cutest PJs in the entire class! Thanks Aunt Deeda:

And then, some footage from our trip to Idaho.

August has his very own snow shovel at Grandma & Grandpa's, where shoveling snow can be a near-daily exercise. Here's our guy shoveling snow with Grandpa, a video and some photos:

2.5 Years: More Typing

August won't be three for another month, so we think this is pretty impressive! Just for the record, typing is a part of the pre-bedtime routine that he thought up and he actively requests. This is not us pushing him.... not that we haven't taken advantage of his interest, though!

It's more than 4 minutes, so you don't have to sit through the whole thing to get the idea.

Mary points out that we really don't know if this is unusual. All I know is that I remember being excited on the first day of first grade because we were finally going to learn this mystery of reading and writing. I thought it was about time! August is less than half that age right now. What were people thinking back then!?

6 Months | 2.5 Years: Scenes From Our World

New look for the blog today to celebrate that Lela is 6 months old today! Backlog of photos and video from our world, including our family visit to the ER last night. August banged his forehead onto a toy box and opened a very deep gash over his right eye. Poor kid, that's twice in two months. Too many. I love him so much, it just breaks my heart that he feels any distress... which he very much does during suturing. It's not the pain, it's that he doesn't like people messing with his face/head or any part of him, and being held down is trauma.

Video of August: running around at the mall, play date with Nora, Duke's birthday party:

4 Days | 2 Years: Wiggle Bug

August calls her Wiggle Bug, and Dwagify, and Bussy, and Gwass Hoppaw. I call her Lela Bee, Bug, and Leedle. Mary calls her "my girlie girl".

We don't know where "Wiggle Bug" comes from, but it's awfully cute.

2 Years: Running Around in the Mall

Just to document one of August's favorite winter-time activities... running up & down the slight ramp that leads away from one of the busier parts of our local mall. When the playground is wet or under snow, or if the wind blows super cold, we do this instead of hit the playground. He gets a lot of good running!

And here's a picture of August with Mommy, who's due April 21.

2 Years: Silly Face

You might recognize this popular photo of August/Daddy silly-face from Mary's Facebook feed:

Well here's our guy in action, flashing his curly-lipped silly face during a pancake breakfast. Off camera, I'm playing too. The game has always been to see who can make the face to make the other laugh first.
